There is no question in my mind that the gift of tongues is way more important than 95% of the Church realizes it is, but my saying that does not make it so. Even if I could add a couple of doctorate degrees to my name with a pastorate of a mega church, radio and TV ministry, with a long list of published books, my words would be no more reliable than the words of any person who disagreed with them.
However, if I can prove the validity of the gift of tongues from the scriptures, without their interpretation, then support that premise from three other locations in the scripture, without interpretation, I have laid a foundation that will stand for all time. We are told that heaven and earth shall pass away, but God's Word will stand forever.
Jesus told the disciples to beware the leaven of the scribes and Pharisees. Leaven is an ingredient that when placed in dough, changes the dough and expands it. Jesus' greatest criticism of the scribes and Pharisees was that they had interpreted His Word. They had shut up the kingdom of heaven against men, (by their interpretation) they weren't entering themselves, and were hindering those that tried to.
There is one way to heaven, belief in Jesus and a confession of His Lordship, as revealed by Romans 10:9-10. The integrity of these two verses of scripture is paramount to salvation. If they were to be interpreted to mean something other than what they say, the Kingdom of God could be shut up against men. No one would be able to find their way to heaven without this truth. This point reveals the importance that our beliefs are founded by the Word of God. Since the Church was founded on the new covenant, and the new covenant was founded by the blood of Jesus, the one and only commandment given by Jesus after His resurrection would seem to be incredibly important. Yet, the Church ignores it.
They interpret it.
